Is Marriage Itself Really Important?
Is Marriage Itself Really Important? Can't We Just Live Together to See If We Are Compatible?
Throughout the entire Bible, we see that marriage is important. The marriage covenant instituted by God in Genesis, is a vow, a promise before God and man. When a man and woman join in this holy ceremony it parallels the union between Christ and the church, his holy bride. Revelation talks about Jesus being the "bridegroom" who will come to earth to claim his bride. As the marriage relationship between a man and a woman grows deeper, becoming more and more transparent, they grow deeper in relationship to God. We have seen that the end purpose of the covenant is union. The purpose of the marriage covenant is to bring a man and a woman into union with God. In order to have this Godly relationship, each believer must be in personal covenant with God. The strength of a deep relationship with God is the glue of a healthy, equally yoked marriage in which each believer is continually growing in knowledge and relationship with their spouse and God. Until we, as believers, have come into this unity, we have not fulfilled our covenant obligations—either to Christ or to one another.
How Can I Trust God to Lead Me to the Right Husband?
God knew you before you were born. Psalm 139:13-15 says, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together in the depths of the earth." From this passage, we know that God intimately cares about every aspect of our lives. Since He created you in His image and for a relationship with Him and others, He desires the best for your life. He will bring the right man into your life at the right time and the right season to bless you and glorify Himself. Keep praying for His leading and guiding every day. Remember, Jeremiah 29:11 says, "I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future."
